Today, Lisa uses her lived experience to support others and speak publicly about domestic abuse, domestic violence, coercive control, why survivors stay, leaving safely and life after domestic abuse.

Domestic Abuse in the Workplace: A Guide for Employers and Employees in Kent

Domestic abuse does not stop when someone arrives at work. An employee may appear confident, professional and completely in control, while privately experiencing domestic abuse, domestic violence, coercive control or emotional abuse at home.
In this personal and practical article, Jump Up founder Lisa Holley Palmer shares her own lived experience of domestic abuse and explains some of the signs employers, HR professionals, managers and colleagues may notice in the workplace.
From a sudden change in behaviour and increased absence to anxiety when the telephone rings, unexplained injuries or becoming increasingly withdrawn, sometimes the smallest changes can tell us that something is wrong.
Lisa also explores why leaving an abusive relationship is rarely as simple as saying, “Why don’t you just leave?”, the impact domestic abuse can have on children, and why having someone to talk to and a safe plan can be so important.
Jump Up provides domestic abuse support in Kent and works with businesses through workplace talks and awareness sessions, helping organisations recognise the signs and understand how to support employees experiencing domestic abuse.
Sometimes simply noticing, listening and creating a safe opportunity to talk can make an enormous difference.
